Google Talk with Your Site’s Visitors

Wednesday, February 27, 2008

Google is always looking for ways to improve their products and well they’ve done it once again.

Ever visited a site and wanted to talk to someone immediately without having to pick up the phone or fill out a contact form and wait for a reply?

Well, it’s now possible for your site visitors to talk to you.

Google Talk has a new feature.  You can now chat with people you do not know with the new Google Talk Chatback Badge right on your web site and blogs.  All you have to do is add a small amount of code to your web site or blog and you’re ready to go.

When visitors visit your site they will see a badge like this:  GoogleTalkBadge

This allows your site visitors to contact you and talk (if you’re signed on and actually there) or they will see your away message and try to catch you at another time.

What’s great about it, is that it is private, not public like comments and it is a one on one conversation.  Meaning if you’re chatting to two different visitors, they are on two different windows so visitor A do not know that you’re chatting with visitor B and they can’t see each other’s conversations.

You must have a Google Talk account to implement this on your web site, but your visitors do not.  Sign up for a Free GTalk account now if you do not already have one.
