Top Trends in Search in 2007 – Yahoo

Yahoo released their top search trends for 2007 yesterday and its a great break-down of how 2007 played out. The middle East, Britney Spears and new technology reined supreme in 2007

Rounding out the top news searches of 2007 was searches for cell phone footage of Saddam Hussein’s final moments. 5 of the top 10 searches were about the middle east; Iran, Iraq, Oil and Gas prices and Afghanistan still played heavily in peoples minds.

Of course people are still concerned with what Hollywood harlot has done what lately. Even though her album flopped and she has yet to have a press conference to defend herself Britney Spears holds onto the top spot of celebrity searches. A look at the list and it seems people are still amazed at famous train wrecks.

Technology was huge this year. The release of innovative devices like the iPhone and Wii had people racing to the search engines to try and get their hands on these coveted devices. 2007 also marked a coming of sorts for two little used websites. Wikipedia, a ‘multilingual, web-based, free content encyclopedia project’ fell into huge favour as a reliable reference source in ’07. Another coming out party was for the social site Facebook. A one time ‘invite only’ site for college students they opened their doors and sat back and counted the money as companies such as Microsoft came knocking at their door.

Social bookmarking site del.icio.us reports some trends for 2007 also. Design tops the list with users eager to find out what the new trends in graphic design will be. Technology also faired well with del.icio.us users. HDTV, Games, Music and Web 2.0 round out the top 5
